Dedicated, Passionate Volunteers are what make good things happen in Communities and in the Arts!

When people decide to help create something wonderful together for their community and the arts it makes a difference.

The Aurora jazz+ Festival began as a one day trial in conjunction with the Aurora Farmers Market back in 2009.  Given its success, the next year it grew to a 2 day event and finally in 2011 we had a full-fledged 3 day festival in Town Park with over 6,000 patrons, 2 stages, 20 food vendors, booths, 28 musical acts, 20 visual artists and so much more.

Happily all this community effort by dedicated Board members and hundreds of volunteers has brought this festival recognition as one of the Top 100 Festival/Events in Ontario  by Festival & Events Ontario:

Such recognition and achievement supports the artists, musicians and our culture, while stimulating tourism and economic development in York Region
making the festival site a destination location!  A big spotlight is now on the Aurora jazz+ Festival for 2012!!  Thanks to all our dedicated volunteers,
sponsors, entertainers and artists.

The Board of the Aurora Festival of the Arts – Organizers of the 2011 Aurora jazz+ Festival

THANKS all who helped us make it a huge success this year!
Our 3rd year saw thousands of music and art lovers attend enjoying our uniquely multicultural Canadian talents

Success was due to Entertainers on Stage, Visual Artists in the Park, Vendors, Sponsors, tireless/dedicated Volunteers and of course, the AFA Board and Advisory Board.  Many organizations, clubs, Seniors, Students and community minded people from all over York Region joined together to create the 2011 Aurora jazz+ Festival.

Volunteers first! – Over 100 people helped us man the gates, assisted patrons in the park, staffed Beer/Wine Garden as Smart Servers, provided communication the park, interviewed participants, took films and photos, sold posters and tee-shirts, assisted Vendors and generally provided whatever back-up was needed whenever it was needed!

Volunteers were there for Whatever/Whenever and the festival could not run nor be a success without each one.

Sponsors – We had wonderful sponsors who helped us with everything from the Entertainment to the Staging and Promotions with sponsorship funds and services in kind.  We thank:  Ontario Trillium Foundation, Enbridge Gas, The Town of Aurora, 88.5 The Jewel, King Brewery, CIBC Aurora, The Arts Music Store, 91.1 Jazz FM, 94.7 The Wave, SNAP Newspaper (Aurora/Richmond Hill), On Richmond Hill,  Jonathan’s Restaurant, Villa Risi Restaurant, Black Forest Garden Centre, Vinoteca Winery, Hawkness Music, Long & McQuade, Coll Audio, Shield Service Security, Pezmosis Music, Multi Media Film Festival of York Region, York Region Amateur Radio Operators, Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Daphne Williamson, The Salvation Army, Aurora Clicks, Epoch Times, Brand Wizard, Powell Fence…   Certainly there are more who donated time/services in kind – this is to reach out to thank you now!  Our formal thank you promises to include everyone and will likely be rather lengthy!

Visual Artists & Musical Entertainers – Your dedication, great works of art and performances gave substance to the festival.   Herbert Pryke of Artcures has the complete list of Visual Artists who attended – each of whom brought inspirational works. We had over 27 musical performers – over 80% of which were from York Region.  The musical entertainment was awesome!  AFA wishes to thank every artist musical and visual for supporting the festival sharing with us your talent and time!

2011 Vendors
– Thank you all for helping us create a wonderful atmosphere with great foods, services, information and shopping!

We will provide a formal thank you once we complete our festival wrap up and tallies to advise how your input helped create this wonderful successful festival.

In the meantime your comments, views and suggestions are welcome!

Sincerely
Sher St. Kitts

O What a Night!

June 9th – Aurora Festival of the Arts celebrated its second annual Hollywood Style Black Tie Gala in style!  Guests dressed up in zoot suits, fedoras, boahs, diamonds and gowns – bedazzled with all the fun and glitz that Hollywood infers!

It all started with a Red Carpet Press Conference featuring festival featured artists George St. Kitts, George Olliver, Rob Tardik, Robin Banks, John Ebata, Joel Krivy, Courtenay Field, Hot Rocks taking photos with organizers, guests and being interviewed by the press including Rogers: Diana Ciccone, SNAP: Cindy Shaver and Nic from The Era Banner.

By 6pm the Mansion was buzzing with excitement as guests arrived in anticipation of a wonderful night for the Arts!  Cameras snapped out photos on the Red Carpet capturing Artists, Organizers, Charities and Guests.  What a wonderful guest list it was.   Included were MPP Frank Klees, Ontario Trillium Foundation representative Merwat Rashwan, York Region Chief of Police Eric Joliffe, Mayor Steve Pelligrini of King, Markham Councilor Kanapathi, Aurora Councilor Humfryes, York Region Arts Council Executive Director Nancy Bodi, Michael Bowe & Denise Anderson of the Multi Media Film Festival of York Region, Herbert & Danielle Pryke of Artcures, television and radio personality Spider Jones, Rogers television personality Diana Ciccone, Catherine Matheson and crew from 88.5 The Jewel (88.5 car parked in front!),  business leaders, former councilors, a table full of artists as mentioned, real estate personalities – Michele Denniston, Merilyn McCart and Judy Kendall and festival’s two charities representatives of Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness and Safehaven making the event a microcosm of this year’s festival.

The night was filled with fun and dancing to the sounds of George St. Kitts Band and guest artists Alex Ciccone, Robin Banks and Spider Jones.  Silent Auction was filled to the brim and bidding continued into the night raising funds and awareness for the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness.   A guessing game for a fantastic 22K Blue Topaz necklace hung elegantly on a strand of luminescent pearls, valued at $3500 donated to the Aurora Festival of the Arts by Kavar Jewellers was part of the excitement of the night.

MPP Frank Klees and OTF representative Merwat Rashwan presented AFA Board with the Ontario Trillium plaque, speeches were made and then the celebration the arts in York Region carried on until after midnight.

O what a night for the Arts indeed!  A perfect opportunity for art supporters to get to know one another better and cook up more ideas on how we can support the arts while stimulating local economy and tourism!

Thanks to all who supported the 2011 Hollywood Style Black Tie Gala fund raiser for the Aurora Festival of the Arts!

Join us July 29, 30 and 31st in Aurora’s Town Park at the Aurora jazz+ Festival
